Noir meets reality

Calvin and Hobbes – Bill Watterson (Laurie Dix)

Calvin and Hobbes is an incredibly well established comic strip.

The simplistic line drawings are easily identified as Watterson’s own style. The different shaped panels make it a bit more interesting to look at, and the repetition in similarity of the illustrations give movement and rhythm to the stories.

Charming as it is, however, this style would also not work for our comic. It is much too friendly and approachable, and although I love these comics very much, they strike a different tone to that which we are looking for.
